i’m brand new to Pilates. WHERE SHOULD I START?

Welcome to Ritual moves. We firmly believe Pilates is for everybody and every body, no matter your experience or abilities. Most of our classes, with the exception of Full embody advanced, are open-level and suitable for any level or mood.

  • WHAT CLASS should i choose as a beginner?

    • We recommended newbies start with a private lesson to get introduced to the machines and movements.

    • Hoping to jump into a beginners class? Try the ‘Slow flow’ (both locations) or ‘ritual reset’ (austin-only) classes, where we focus on mobility, form and gentle movement that feels good and does good.

    • if you are new to the mat classes (austin-only), try our ‘daily ritual’ or ‘body devotion’ classes.

    • Already signed up for a Full embody (All-Levels) class? No problem. Our teachers are well versed in modifications that will help you move well at any pace or experience level.

anything i should know before my FIRST CLASS?

  • Wear stretchy and comfortable clothes.

  • Bring grip socks or purchase a pair upon arrival. (Grip socks are required for all reformer classes.)

  • for mat classes, we provide mats and props!

  • please arrive 5-10 minutes before class start to ensure our instructors can give you a brief overview of the studio space and machines and props when applicable.

  • Bring water in your own cup. For environmental reasons, we do not supply disposable cups.

  • While not necessary, bring a towel in case you sweat!

  • please let your instructor know before class start should you have any injuries, issues and/or if you are pregnant.

I’M PREGNANT, CAN I STILL COME TO CLASS?

Yes! If you’ve been cleared to exercise by your doctor, you can totally join our group classes.

Our pre-natal certified teachers fully understand the guidelines around exercise during pregnancy. We have wedges to support you during class if needed and can always offer modification to accommodate you at any stage.

I’m NOT FEELING well. can i still come to class?

If you have cold or flu symptoms please refrain from attending class until you are well. Rest may just be your best bet anyway!

If you have any injuries, please get the all clear from your doctor before attending class.

During class, always listen to your body and don’t be afraid to speak up. We aren’t a quiet, studio. We love a good dialogue about modifying exercises for every body.

what should i expect for my first visit?

Arrive at least 5 minutes before class. Empty reformers will be given to those on the waitlist or walk-ins.

Check in with your instructor before each class so they can mark you as attending.

Your instructor will ask you a few questions, including if there are any injuries we should know about and/or if you are pregnant, before class start. Please let us know of anything we may need to know about your body. We respect your privacy. Please also let us know about your current movement routine (if any) and your Pilates experience (if any.)

Other than water and a towel, please leave all of your belongings at the front of the studio, including your phones.

what is the difference between a membership and the a-la-carte packages?

  • the monthly memberships are billed on a monthly basis and payments recur (auto-renew) forever until a cancellation is requested via email. cancellation requests must be made 2 weeks prior to next billing cycle. for more information on membership cancellations, head here.

  • the unlimited memberships are billed either on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. the same cancellation request rules as above apply here.

  • a-la-carte packages are one time purchases and have their own individual expiration dates as listed on our austin pricing page and our brooklyn pricing page. a-la-carte packages do not auto-renew.

IS THERE SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH PILATES?

In our (Pilates obsessed, highly experienced) books, never. But make sure you always do what works for your body, mind, mood and schedule.

If you’re new to Pilates, 2-3 classes per week is a great starting point. For those with other consistent movement routines, 3-4 times a week is the sweet spot.

Once you’re as hooked as we are, you can build up to 5-6 classes per week.

To make the most out of your workouts, we suggest taking a mixture of classes to ensure you’re getting a range of full-body, mentally-stimulating, and emotionally-fulfilling movement.
